Qualities to look for in a marriage mate? Let's get real...
by findingme indoodle-v's thread regarding our own ypa questions got me thinking about this.
recall when we were past the "bloom of youth", and we could start the dating process (with only the possibility of marriage in mind, of course).
i was reminded again and again to look for that brother who possessed "spiritual qualities", ie, who could take the lead, had the goal of becoming a pioneer, or already was a pioneeer, etc.

Persecution of JW's Imminent?
by blacksheep inprobably dating myself, but remember all those assemblies/yearbooks, etc., that focused on the possibility that jws would suffer persecution at the hands of nazi-like regimes?
i remember attending an assembly which dramatized jw's being held, as in wwii, as having to make a choice to either "renounce?

From my understanding, The Organisation has always attempted (with some considerable success) to actually groom and create a society of eminantley dislikeable people!
- Smug and arrogant (we have the one true religion, so fuck off!).
- Deliberately unpalatable doctrines (no blood, no birthdays, no xmas and no oral sex!).
- Crap clothes (you must be "modest" and "tasteful"); ie, for ladies - beige polyester skirts, 1 inch below the knee, as opposed to black lycra skirts 1 inch below minge-base; gentleman - beige or gray polyester slacks, as opposed to denim jeans!
They do this on purpose, because they don't want to be popular, they actually want to be persecuted, and thus, in some perverse way, attempt to find some biblical justification of the world's "hatred" of them! But in fact, the world does not "hate" them. The world just thinks they are a bunch of bloody sad tossers!

I'll tell you what really wazzes me off!
The fact that it was not ok for me to go around to my (worldly) parents' home for turkey, roast potatoes, mince pies and sherry etc... on December 25th, but it was ok to visit my (ex) wife's extended witness family on December 26th for turkey, roast potatoes, mince pies and sherry etc!
Cheesers, the only difference was 24 hours and no xmas tree!
A few indignant expletives now follow...
hypocrytical w@nkers, tossers, fvckers, gits, b@stards, turds, dickheads.... and more fool me for not waking up to the hypocrisy sooner!

What was the silliest thing they told you NOT to do?
by goddess_baal inthere was some really piddily-crap that i remember.. for instance, when i was about 17 toe-rings became popular, and one of the sisters bought one....wore it to the kh during the summer with her sandals.
my best friend in the hall wanted one, which of course caused this huge debate about whether it would be okay 'in jehovah's eyes', and didn't it go against the scripture that counsels women against "bodily adornment", blah-blah-blah.

An absolutely first-rate letter in which you state your position firmly and clearly, but without bile or bitterness! Excellent!
As others have suggested, you must try to get your letter into the hands of as many of your erstwhile associates as possible. Sadly, however, for all the common good sense, reason and balance evident in your letter, you can be sure that, although the letter was obviously read and understood, it's rational impact will have been totally lost upon the closed minds that accepted it as your letter of disassociation.
It is a paradox, isn't it, that reasonable and well aregued points for discussion are consistantly rejected, in favour of the endlessly repetative cycle of meaningless drivel that appears in the WT study articles. And yet the writers of said articles constantly present it as though it's all new, and you never read it before!
Your letter however, now that would make a great study article!
